The Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP) is the entrance exam conducted by Symbiosis International (Deemed University), or SIU, for its MBA programmes. SNAP is mandatory for the 32 MBA programmes offered by 17 Symbiosis institutes across Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Hyderabad, NOIDA and Bengaluru, including SIBM Pune and SCMHRD. It is a short, fast test: 60 questions in 60 minutes. It suits anyone who wants a Symbiosis MBA, and it fits easily alongside CAT preparation, since the SNAP 2026 test dates fall in December, after CAT.

Exam pattern
The table below is the official SNAP 2026 test structure from the SNAP 2026 bulletin and snaptest.org.
| Section | Questions | Marks | What it tests |
|---|---|---|---|
| General English | 10 | 10 | English language and reading |
| Analytical & Logical Reasoning | 20 | 20 | Reasoning and puzzles |
| Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency | 20 | 20 | Maths, reading data, judging whether data is sufficient |
| Ethics, Morality and Values | 10 | 10 | Ethical judgement (new for SNAP 2026) |
| Total | 60 | 60 |
Notes on the pattern:
- Timing. The test lasts 60 minutes. No sectional time limits are published, and the official guidelines say you may attempt the sections in any order.
- Marking. SNAP is objective: each question has four options. A correct answer earns 1 mark and each wrong answer attracts 25% negative marks.
- Three tests, best score. You can register for up to three tests (13, 19 and 26 December 2026). If you take more than one, the higher score is used for the final percentile. SIU says there is no normalisation of scores across tests; instead the papers are designed to be comparable in difficulty.
- Change in the latest edition. SNAP 2026 adds a 10-question Ethics, Morality and Values section, which Careers360 (2026) reported as new for this edition. The total remains 60 questions in 60 minutes.
- Eligibility. Programme eligibility is set per programme. For example, the SIBM Pune MBA requires graduation from a recognised university with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates).
- What happens next. SNAP is only the first stage. Shortlisted candidates go on to each programme's own GE-PI (group exercise and personal interview) process. You must pay the programme registration fee for every programme you want to be considered for, in addition to the SNAP fee.
SIU notes that the schedule and structure can change, so confirm the details on snaptest.org.
What each section tests
SIU publishes section names and question counts but no topic-by-topic syllabus. The descriptions below follow the official section names; check what you expect against any official sample material SIU releases.
General English
With 10 questions, this is a short section. Its name points to English language skills: reading, vocabulary, grammar and usage. Accuracy matters because each wrong answer costs a quarter of a mark.
Analytical & Logical Reasoning
Twenty questions on reasoning. The section name covers both analytical puzzles (arrangements, grouping and similar) and logical reasoning. With only about a minute per question across the paper, the time available suggests shorter items than the long multi-question puzzle sets CAT uses.
Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency
Twenty questions covering quantitative aptitude, reading data from tables and charts, and data sufficiency, where you decide whether the given statements are enough to answer a question rather than solving it fully.
Ethics, Morality and Values
New for SNAP 2026, with 10 questions. SIU has not published a detailed description, and older SNAP papers do not include this section, so there is little past material to study. The section name suggests questions that ask you to judge what is right or most appropriate in a given situation.
How it compares with CAT
| SNAP 2026 | CAT | |
|---|---|---|
| Duration | 60 minutes | 120 minutes |
| Questions | 60 | Fewer, longer questions |
| Section timing | No sectional limits published; any order | Each section has its own timer |
| Unique content | Data sufficiency; Ethics, Morality and Values | None of these |
| Attempts | Up to three, best score counts | Once a year |
| Used by | Symbiosis MBA programmes | IIMs and many other schools |
In general terms:
- Speed matters more. SNAP gives you about a minute per question across the paper, whereas CAT gives you more time per question but harder, multi-step sets. Many candidates find the main SNAP challenge is pace rather than depth.
- Ethics is new territory. CAT has no equivalent section.
- More chances. Three tests mean one bad day need not decide your result, though each test costs a separate fee.
The core skills overlap with CAT. See our CAT guide for the CAT format.
How Pareto Academy helps
| SNAP section | Covered by Pareto? | What to use |
|---|---|---|
| General English | Partly | VARC questions and daily reading for reading and usage; grammar and vocabulary drills are not covered yet |
| Analytical & Logical Reasoning | Partly | DILR questions and puzzle strategies for arrangements and selection puzzles; other short reasoning types are not covered yet |
| Quantitative Ability | Yes | Quant questions, formula sheet, improve your Quant score |
| Data Interpretation | Yes | DILR questions |
| Data Sufficiency | Limited | Practise with official SNAP material as it is released |
| Ethics, Morality and Values | Not yet | Official SNAP material |
| SNAP-pattern mocks | Not yet | Our mocks follow the CAT pattern, which is much longer than SNAP |
For the sections we do not cover, rely on official SNAP material from snaptest.org. Reading a quality newspaper regularly also helps with vocabulary and with thinking through the kinds of situations the ethics section is likely to describe.

Preparation tips
- Practise for speed. Sixty questions in 60 minutes leaves no room to get stuck. Train yourself to skip a question within about a minute and come back to it later.
- Respect the negative marking. A wrong answer costs a quarter of a mark. On a short paper, a few careless guesses can undo several correct answers.
- Learn data sufficiency separately. It is not part of CAT. Practise the habit of deciding whether information is enough without finishing the calculation.
- Prepare for the ethics section without overthinking it. There are no past papers for it. Read the scenario carefully, consider who is affected, and choose the response that is fair and responsible rather than the cleverest.
- Use your attempts deliberately. If you register for more than one test, treat the first as a real attempt but review it before the next. Only the best score counts.
- Plan around CAT. SNAP 2026 starts on 13 December, two weeks after CAT 2026 (29 November). Switch to short, timed SNAP-style practice in the days after CAT.
- Register in time. SNAP registration and payment close on 25 November 2026, and test cities and dates are allotted first come, first served.
Frequently asked questions
How many times can I take SNAP 2026?
Up to three times: on 13, 19 and 26 December 2026. Each test needs a separate fee, and if you take more than one, the higher score is used for your percentile.
Is there negative marking in SNAP?
Yes. Each wrong answer attracts 25% negative marks, which is 0.25 of the one mark per question.
What is the new section in SNAP 2026?
Ethics, Morality and Values, with 10 questions worth 10 marks. The full SNAP 2026 paper has General English (10), Analytical & Logical Reasoning (20), Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency (20) and Ethics (10), for 60 questions in total.
When will SNAP 2026 results be declared?
On 12 January 2027, on snaptest.org.
Does a SNAP score get me into a Symbiosis institute?
No, not on its own. You must also register and pay for each programme, and shortlisted candidates go through that programme's GE-PI process.
