S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), founded in Mumbai in 1981 and part of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan trust, ranks 20th in the NIRF 2025 Management ranking and is one of the few Indian schools with triple-crown accreditation. It suits applicants with a consistent academic record and a well-rounded profile, because its selection starts from the whole profile rather than from a single entrance score, and it accepts both CAT and GMAT.

About SPJIMR Mumbai
SPJIMR was established in 1981 in Mumbai and is a constituent of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, an educational trust founded in 1938. It is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS, the three bodies that make up the "triple crown" of business school accreditation, and also by the Business Graduates Association. AICTE recognises it as a Category I management institute.
As a private institute, SPJIMR awards a Post Graduate Diploma in Management rather than an MBA degree; the institute describes the PGDM as equivalent to an MBA and states that it is approved by AICTE and accredited by NBA and AMBA. It places strong emphasis on social impact: its programme includes long-standing initiatives that connect students with a local community in Mumbai, with grassroots NGOs and with rural India. The institute says it aims to become a net-zero campus by 2030.
In the NIRF 2025 Management ranking it placed 20th with a score of 62.06. Its admissions page states that admission is strictly on merit with no management quota of any kind.

Admissions and eligibility
For Indian applicants to the PGDM, SPJIMR's admissions page sets these requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA from a recognised university.
- A score in CAT or GMAT. Meeting the institute's minimum qualifying score in at least one of these tests is mandatory; the page does not publish the cut-off values.
- Freshers and candidates with up to five years of work experience may apply.
For the 2027-29 batch, applications open on 15 September 2026 and close on 27 November 2026, with an application processing fee of Rs 2,500 for Indian applicants. AICTE has allocated 36 additional PGDM seats for international students, including PIOs, OCIs and children of Indian workers in Gulf countries; international applicants pay a Rs 5,000 processing fee.
Selection process
SPJIMR's selection is profile-led. The admissions page describes it as follows for the PGDM:
- Profile-based shortlisting. Applications are evaluated and sorted into two groups: profile-based and profile-cum-score-based. Applicants must also meet the qualifying score in at least one accepted test.
- Assessment of the overall profile, considering:
- Academic background: strong and consistent performance in Class X, Class XII and every year of graduation.
- Work experience: relevance of any work experience to the chosen specialisation.
- Entrance score: meeting the minimum eligibility cut-off.
- Versatility and achievements: activities across different fields and notable past achievements.
- In-person interviews. For the 2027 intake, tentative interview phases are in Mumbai and Kolkata in January 2027 and in Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai in February 2027.
SPJIMR does not publish numerical weights for these components or its minimum test scores. Check the admissions page and your shortlist communication for the latest details.
Fees and financial aid
SPJIMR's PGDM fees page lists the fee for Indian participants as Rs 24,86,000, including tuition and basic hostel accommodation. The page describes this as indicative and subject to revision and does not name the batch, so confirm the figure for your intake. The fee does not include the optional Global Fast Track and international exchange components. International participants pay Rs 34,77,500 on the same basis.
Financial support offered by the institute:
- Need-based financial assistance: available to first- and second-year PGDM participants based on financial need, academic performance, extracurricular activities and conduct. It takes the form of partial or full reimbursement of the tuition component. Applications are invited in July and assessed by a panel.
- Mirae Asset Foundation scholarship: two participants each from the first and second years receive Rs 5 lakh each, for meritorious and needy students with family income below Rs 8 lakh.

Campus and student life
SPJIMR's campus is within the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan campus at Munshi Nagar in Andheri (West), Mumbai.
The PGDM includes a series of experiential courses beyond the classroom. The curriculum page lists PGLab for individual leadership skills, Abhyudaya for mentoring and understanding urban poverty, DoCC for social internships focused on rural India, ADMAP for managerial capability, and SOS, a course on conscious leadership. The first year opens with a Harvard Business School pre-MBA foundation module.
In the second year, the optional Global Fast Track sends participants for three weeks to a partner business school abroad. Student clubs run sessions with alumni across consulting, sales and marketing, product management, supply chain, and design and innovation.
How to prepare for SPJIMR Mumbai
SPJIMR shortlists on profile first, so your academic consistency from Class X onwards, the relevance of any work experience and your achievements outside class all matter before your test score is even considered. You cannot change past marks, but you can present your profile clearly and honestly in the application.
You must still clear the qualifying score in CAT or GMAT. If you are choosing between the two, our CAT vs GMAT guide explains how they differ. If you take CAT, prepare all three sections with our CAT 2026 preparation guide; the SPJIMR application deadline of 27 November 2026 comes before the CAT exam itself, so apply on time regardless.
For the interview, be ready to discuss your motivation, your choice of specialisation and how you would contribute to a school with a strong social-impact focus. Prepare specific examples from your studies, work and activities, and read about the courses such as DoCC and Abhyudaya so you understand what the programme asks of you.
