About IIM Rohtak

IIM Rohtak describes itself as established in 2009 and set up by the Government of India as the eighth IIM. It is an Institute of National Importance under the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017. The institute says its campus covers 200 acres on the national highway near Rohtak, in the National Capital Region, and is well connected to Delhi.

The institute emphasises research; its website states it has been ranked among the top five IIMs in research. Its 2024-26 placement report lists milestones including the launch of a five-year Integrated Programme in Management in 2018, AMBA accreditation in 2022 and a first appearance in the QS rankings in 2024. In the NIRF 2025 Management ranking it placed 19th with a score of 62.60.

The PGP curriculum has a few distinctive features. A Rural Engagement Program is mandatory after Term I, the communication workshop courses must be passed before a student can sit for placements, and each second-year term includes a compulsory simulation course: Global Business Simulation, Markstrat and a capstone simulation.

Programmes

  • PGP (MBA): the flagship two-year, full-time programme, now admitting its 17th batch.
  • IPM: a five-year Integrated Programme in Management after Class XII.
  • IPL: a five-year Integrated Programme in Law.
  • PGPx: a one-year Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives.
  • MMS (Public Policy): Master of Management Studies.
  • ePGDSM: Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management for Executives.
  • Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM), with a stipend and full tuition waiver in the first two years.
  • Short-term executive education and consultancy.

Admissions and eligibility

IIM Rohtak runs its own five-stage admissions process for the PGP, based on CAT. For the 2026-28 batch (PGP Batch 17), candidates registered online between late December 2025 and 9 January 2026 and paid a registration fee of Rs 3,095.

The minimum eligibility to register is set as an overall CAT percentile, with no published sectional cut-offs:

Category Minimum CAT percentile
General 97
EWS 93
NC-OBC 83
SC 60
ST 50
DAP-General 87
DAP-EWS 83
DAP-NC-OBC 73
DAP-SC 50
DAP-ST 40

The institute states that meeting these minimums does not ensure a call for the personal interview. Its PGP admission policy does not restate a separate graduation-percentage rule, so check CAT's own eligibility conditions on the official CAT website. Seats are allotted by category under Government of India reservation rules.

Selection process

The 2026-28 process has five stages:

  1. Online registration for eligible CAT candidates.
  2. Personal interview (PI) for shortlisted candidates only.
  3. A final selection list based on CAT, PI and diversity scores.
  4. Provisional admission offers by merit and category.
  5. Reporting and joining.

The merit list uses these weights:

  • CAT percentile: 60%
  • Personal interview: 20%
  • Academic diversity and gender diversity: 20% combined

The policy explains that the diversity component exists because the normal applicant pool is skewed towards male candidates and engineering graduates. Unlike several other IIMs, IIM Rohtak's 2026-28 formula has no separate weight for work experience or past academic marks. The total number of PGP seats for the batch is 264.

Fees and financial aid

For the PGP 2026-28 batch, total charges are Rs 8,95,000 in each year (Rs 17.90 lakh over two years), paid as Rs 3,55,000, Rs 2,70,000 and Rs 2,70,000 across the three terms of each year.

The fee document lists these additional charges:

  • Mess fee of Rs 48,000 per year
  • Placement facility charges of Rs 40,000 and a development charge of Rs 10,000 per year
  • Alumni membership fee of Rs 6,500 and a refundable caution deposit of Rs 10,000 in the first year

Hostel accommodation is in twin-sharing air-conditioned rooms. The institute's website publishes financial assistance details for the doctoral programme but no PGP-specific scholarship scheme; ask the admissions office about any support available, and look at the National Scholarship Portal for central government schemes.

Placements

In the NIRF 2025 data, the median salary of placed graduates of the two-year PG programme was Rs 19.27 lakh a year for the batch graduating in 2023-24, with all 227 graduates placed. The two previous years were Rs 18.74 lakh (2022-23) and Rs 16.06 lakh (2021-22).

The institute's Final Placement Report for the PGP batch of 2024-26 reports:

  • Median CTC: Rs 18.00 lakh a year
  • Average CTC: Rs 20.03 lakh a year, about 6.9% higher than the previous year
  • Highest domestic CTC: Rs 37.10 lakh a year
  • Average of the top 10%: Rs 33.01 lakh; top 25%: Rs 28.07 lakh
  • 213 recruiters, including more than 130 new ones, and over 40 pre-placement offers
  • Consulting (28%) and finance (23%) were the largest domains, followed by sales and marketing (20%)

The report gives the batch size as 303 with average work experience of 18.8 months. It does not state that it was externally audited. Placement figures vary by year and role; read the official report before drawing conclusions.

Campus and student life

The 200-acre campus is in Sunaria, on Rohtak's southern bypass, with students housed in twin-sharing air-conditioned hostel rooms.

Student life is organised through committees and clubs. Committees include the Student Council, Academic Committee, Sports Committee, Cultural Committee, Hospitality Committee, Placement Preparation Committee and the Industry Relations and Interaction Cell, which runs the Management Conclave and a CXO Summit. Clubs cover marketing (Marque), strategy and consulting, finance and investments, supply chain and operations, and HR (Humane-R). The Entrepreneurship Cell is linked to Bizdome, a business incubator, and the Social Development Projects Cell runs community initiatives such as Every Child In School. Infusion is described as the institute's flagship event.

For international links, the institute lists academic collaboration agreements covering student exchange with Singapore Management University, California State University Fullerton and the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

How to prepare for IIM Rohtak

The General-category minimum of 97 percentile overall is high, and CAT carries 60% of the final score, so the overall percentile is what matters most. There are no published sectional cut-offs, but a strong overall score still needs all three sections working. Build a full plan with our CAT 2026 preparation guide, and use CAT mock analysis to keep your weakest section from dragging the total down.

Because past marks and work experience are not weighted separately, your profile counts mainly through the interview (20%) and the diversity component (20%). That makes the interview important. Prepare clear answers about your background, your reasons for an MBA and your career plans, and follow current affairs. If you are weighing CAT against other tests, our CAT vs GMAT comparison explains how they differ; for the IIM Rohtak PGP, CAT is the only route.
